MCSIX – MCS Internet eXchange

A new IX has emerge in Indonesia, its name is MCSIX or MIX (MCS Internet eXchange). The IX was created by NAP Info Lintas Nusa and located in Jakarta, Indonesia. The name  MCS is referring to Matrix Cable System between Singapore and Jakarta, NAP Info is the co-owner of that sub sea cable. This new IX could be the alternative route for Indonesia ISP.

As we know the largest Indonesia IX is OpenIXP. But due to the problem with Cyber Building (refer to this and this), this IX might have some serious issue in the future. I always wonder, why IX situation in Indonesia is very bleak. Seems to be everybody is fighting each other instead of working together to make it big. Looking back at some disputes between OpenIXP and APJII in 2006-2007. Nobody is a winner here, instead IIX is left in the comatose state and OpenIXP became the de facto IX of Indonesia.

There is a new breath of air to IIX/APJII, when Indonesia 3rd largest mobile operator XL Axiata donated 2 Juniper M7 routers and some switches (1) for the good cause of IPv6 adoption and more BW growth in the future. The question is how far can the M7 routers support the growth of IIX, considering its an entry level router with a mere 4Gbps aggregate throughput. That is simply not enough to support a national IX, a simple comparison the traffic level in OpenIXP is already 45Gbps in Nov 2010 (2).

Hopefully with MCSIX, it could contribute to a cheaper internet bill to the end user. Indonesia internet has been growing fast and steadily for the past 2 years, ever since the international access is not monopolized by Indosat.

Lastly I just want to say: Monopoly is never good, competition creates innovation.

A Road Trip To Jamaica

If you are planning a holiday to Jamaica, know that there is more to the beautiful Caribbean country than simply its beaches and the spectacular shoreline. Beyond the usual tourist traps there is much on offer and so if you want to experience the real Jamaica, you can go off the beaten track.

Jamaica is known for its friendly people and warm hospitality and there is no better way to experience it than by staying in your private Jamaica villas, cottages and apartments that are your home away from home. Offering the best of comfort, privacy, space and services these Jamaica accommodation rentals are more affordable than hotels and provide you the perfect opportunity to explore the island at your own leisure and pace.

Once you have settled in your Jamaica villas, you can take to the roads literally. Indeed there is no better way to appreciate the scenic beauty of the island, savour the local delicacies, and browse through the best craft markets than by journeying on the 17000 kilometers of road meandering its way through mountains, circling the stunning coastline and zigzagging through the forests and woodlands.

Talk to the staff of your Jamaica accommodation rentals and they will arrange a vehicle and an experienced driver who will drive you through the highways and byways and point out the places of interest on the way.

You can try out the ride between Ocho Rios and Port Antonio that will open up amazing vistas of the beautiful surroundings. The roads are dotted with stalls selling sumptuous Jamaican delicacies especially jerked meat. In fact, jerked meat is Jamaica’s speciality and there is no better place to savour it than at the Portland’s Boston Jerk Centre or Buff Bay’s Blueberry Hill Jerk Stop.

If it is sea food that catches your fancy, there is no better place to savor it than in the fishing villages between Negril to the south coast. If you are interested in unique beachfront dining experience, you can stop at the Alligator Pond’s Little Ochie, where you can enjoy your meals on a boat on stilts under a thatched roof overlooking the sea.

Along the roadsides, you’ll notice farmers selling fresh produce and fruits such as jackfruits, sour sops, mangos and coconuts. You can also check out the local drinks such as the ice-cold jelly made from coconut or root wine made from various indigenous herbs and roots boiled in molasses or honey.

Then there are various craft markets along the roads where you can shop for souvenirs such as hand-painted woodcarvings, bamboo shakers, quirky t-shirts and live Dancehall compilation tapes.

Cloud Computing Is More Than A Technology

Cloud Computing is more than a technology. Cloud Computing is more than a platform and it is more than just an application hosted as a service. It is a combination of all the above plus provides immense data storage on the Internet.

In today’s competitive economic environment, as businesses are trying their best to balance and optimize their information technology or IT budgets, Cloud computing can be an effective strategy to reduce the information technology operations and management costs, and to free up critical resources and budget for discretionary innovative projects. Typically, a business organization has a eighty by twenty split between regular ongoing information technology or IT operations cost which includes hardware, software licensing costs, development, data center maintenance, etc. versus new investment for solving needs which are critical for a business to survive in these challenging times. Cloud computing technology can have a significant impact on this by reducing the footprint of information technology operations by taking out the upfront capital investments needed for hardware and software. It enables a new model viz. – use what is needed and pay for what is used model. This entails businesses to invest on innovative solutions that will help them address key customer challenges instead of worrying about cumbersome operational details.

Cloud Computing is a paradigm that is composed of several strata of services. These include services like Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Storage as a Service, Platform as a Service, and Software as a service (SaaS). Different Cloud computing services providers have developed various access models to these services. The access to these services is based on standard Internet Protocols like Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP), Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP), Representational State Transfer (REST), Extensible Markup Language (XML), and the infrastructure is based on widely used technologies including virtualization. Cloud computing is the maturation and coming together of several prior computing concepts like Grid Computing, application service provider (ASP), Server Hosting, Utility Computing, and Virtualization.

Shared Hosting Versus Dedicated Hosting

Every business needs a web hosting solution to fit its particular needs. A business website owner has to consider both the elements involved in maintaining a basic website structure and those more complicated elements required for doing business online. Examples of elements include email newsletters and e-commerce stores. Additionally, business owners have to consider how much daily Internet traffic they are getting to their sites, assess security risks and how much processing power and memory are necessary for the site to function.

Why Is Business Web Hosting Necessary?

Business web hosting gives businesses a place to operate as they grow and work to better reach their target markets. Two types of web hosting that businesses tend to use are shared hosting and dedicated hosting. Shared hosting, more common than dedicated hosting, involves one server being split into multiple accounts. Each account has a user, and the user utilizes the portion of resources, such as processing power and memory, allotted to the site he or she maintains.

Shared Hosting and Dedicated Hosting Have Different Benefits

The most obvious difference between these two business web hosting options is cost. Shared hosting is cheaper, not only because one server’s costs are split among many accounts, but also because when maintenance or repair is needed, the costs of that are also split. Maintenance and repair can be costly, and the fact that the onus is not entirely on any one person can mean huge savings for those utilizing shared hosting. However, dedicated hosting can be preferable for larger business, because such an option provides more space for expansion, more memory and less interference when customers who are visiting the site.

Conclusion

Shared hosting is a good solution for smaller business with fewer resources, while dedicated hosting can be optimal for larger companies. However, once a small business grows enough, it can migrate its site from shared hosting to dedicated hosting in order to ensure that the server being used can accommodate a business with a larger number of web pages, emails and other data.

Mulai dari rekan separtainya, yakni Ketua Umum Partai Demokrat Anas Urbaningrum, Menteri Pemuda Olahraga Andi Malarangeng, Angelina Sondakh, Mirwan Amir, I Wayan Koster, hingga pimpinan KPK, Chandra M Hamzah, Ade Raharja, Busyro Muqqodas, M Jasin, Haryono Umar dan Johan Budi SP.

Nazaruddin disangka melanggar tiga pasal penerimaan suap, yaitu Pasal 5 Ayat 2 dan atau Pasal 12 huruf a dan b, dan Pasal 11 Undang-Undang tentang Tindak Pidana Korupsi.

Hell Gate, Turkmenistan

While drilling in Derweze in Turkmenistan in 1971, geologists accidentally found an underground cavern filled with natural gas. The ground beneath the drilling rig collapsed, leaving a big hole with a diameter of about 50-100 meters. To avoid the disposal of toxic gases, the scientists decided to burn a hole. Geologists hope the fire will go out within a few days but has been burning since then. Residents have named the cave door to Hell. As you can see from the picture above, this is one hell of an amazing place, but certainly one that you do not want to go.

History About the Titanic

Titanic is a passenger ship owned by White Star Line, was built at Harland and Wolff shipyard in Belfast, Northern Ireland, designed to rival the Lusitania and the Mauretania of the Cunard Line. Titanic, along with her sister ship Olympic, Olympic and Britannic which will be made (originally named Gigantic, aims to become the largest and most luxurious ship ever built. Making the RMS Titanic, funded by the American tycoon, JP Morgan and his company International Mercantile Marine Co.., started on March 31, 1909. batches Titanic Agency on May 31, 1911, and equipment in the finish on March 31 next year. Titanic along 269 meters (882 feet 9 inches) and 28 meters (92 feet 6 inches) wide, dead weight 46,328 tons, and the height of the water surface to the deck as high as 18 meters (60 feet). Although she covers a lot of dead weight room and with great power, Titanic has the same length as the Olympic. Titanic has two engines with four-cylinder, three-rotor blades, and one low pressure Parsons turbine that drives the three propellers. There are 29 boiler is heated by 159 coal furnace capable of producing speeds up to 23 knots (43 km / h). Only three of the four chimneys tall ships 19 meters (63 feet ) that function; chimney of the fourth is used as air holes, and to show the greatness of the ship. Ship Titanic capable of carrying 3547 passengers and crew, because she also sent a letter, the name given the addition of the preposition as well as RMS and steamers – the SS (Steam Ship).

At the time, facilities and luxury can not be matched. It offers a swimming pool, gymnasium, Turkish baths, a library and squash arena. The main classroom is decorated entirely with wood paneling, plush furnishings and other beautiful jewelry. He offers three lifts for use first class passengers and, one innovation at that time, one lift for second-class passenger.

Titanic regarded as the pinnacle of marine architecture and technological achievement. He is considered by the magazine as a ship Ship Builders are “almost impossible to sink.” Titanic is divided into 16 watertight room with doors that give the electric locking and will close at the push of a button from the deck of the ship, though, did not deter the entire ship bulkhead deck height (only up to Deck-E). Titanic could float well despite the two living room filled with water or water filled the first four sections, if more than that then it will sink.

First Trip

Titanic started its first voyage from Southampton, England, en route to New York City, New York, on Wednesday, April 10, 1912, under the control of Captain Edward J. Smith. When the Titanic left, waves generated by the ship causing the ship passengers ship destined to New York to break the rope and moved almost (about 4 feet) and the trip delayed until Titanic off the dock. The incident only stopped after one hour. After crossing the English Channel, the Titanic stopped at Cherbourg, France, to reduce and to take additional passengers and stopped again at Queenstown (now known as Cobh), Ireland, before continuing the voyage to New York with 2223 passengers.

Titanic passenger class has three parts separated. Also known as third-class deck, consisting of a small cabin below deck, mostly filled by immigrants from England who expect a better life in America. Cabin and the second classroom, located in the back, have the same facility with first class on other ships. Most second-class passengers on first class occupies the other one on the ship but, due to unavailability of coal, then transferred to the Titanic. The main class is part of the most luxurious ship.

Some of the famous people who participated yachting as first-class passengers. These included millionaire John Jacob Astor and his wife Madeleine Force Astor, Benjamin Guggenheim refinery owner, the owner of Macy’s, Isidor Straus and his wife Ida; Denver millionaire Margaret “Molly” Brown; Sir Cosmo Duff-Gordon and his wife Lady Lucille Duff-Gordon; George Elkins Widener and his wife Eleanor; John Borland Thayer, his wife Marian and their son who was seventeen years old, Jack; journalist William Thomas Stead; Countess of Rothes; U.S. presidential aide Archibald Butt; author and community leader Helen Churchill Candee; author Jacques Futrelle, and May his wife, and their colleagues, editors Broadway Henry and Irene Harris; silent film actress Dorothy Gibson, and others. Participate together in the other major class is the business editor of the White Star Line J. Bruce Ismay who planned the making of Titanic and shipbuilder Thomas Andrews, who participated together to monitor all the problems and assess the overall performance of the new vessel.

Disaster

On the night of Sunday, April 14, the temperature dropped to nearly freezing stage and the sea calm. Moon did not come out and clear skies. Captain Smith, knowing the existence of chunks of iceberg warnings via wireless communications since a few days ago, has changed the Titanic’s bow farther to the south. On Sunday at 13:45 local time, wireless communications officer of the American Steamship warned that large icebergs floating in the Titanic’s path, but the warning was not passed on to the deck guards. That evening, another report on large chunks of iceberg that much, this time from the Mesaba, also failed to be submitted to the deck guards.

At 23:40 am local time when sailing on the southern Grand Banks of Newfoundland, the superintendent Fredrick Fleet and Reginald Lee saw a big chunk of the iceberg right in front of the ship. Bell Fleet rang the ship three times and called the deck guards told, “Iceberg, right ahead!” First Officer Murdoch leads directly into the left side of the steering wheel and reduce speed, then backing ship engines. The collision was inevitable, and floating icebergs are rubbing against the starboard, and tore the hull in the first four sections and break the steel spikes on the bottom of a closed vessel along the water surface about 91 m (300 ft). When the watertight doors were about to close, water was already filled the water-tight rooms which they were intended for making the Titanic unsinkable.  After examination by the staff captain and Thomas Andrews, aware that the Titanic would sink, and after midnight on April 15, a rescue boat to be prepared and notified emergency calls.

The first rescue boat, lowered at 00:40 pm local time on the right with text only 28 people were passengers on it. Titanic rescue boat carrying 20 full capacity of 1178 passengers. Although it is not sufficient to carry all passengers and crew, Titanic carry enough rescue boats and buoys because of regulations set by the Institute of British Rule. At that time, the number of required rescue boats set off the ship by weight, not number of passengers they can carry.

The main and second class passengers can easily reach rescue boats continue to steps leading to the boat deck, but third-class passengers more difficult. There are many paths from the bottom of the boat difficult to understand and difficult for them to get to a rescue boat. Worse, three-class passengers when the door is locked by the crew who were waiting to allow passengers climbed to the deck.

Wireless radio operator Jack Phillips and Harold Bride was busy sending CQD, signal for help. Several ships responded, including Mount Temple, Frankfurt and Titanic’s sister ship, Olympic, but all too far away to reach before the Titanic sank. Nearest ship is owned by Cunard Line RMS Carpathia which as far as 93 kilometers (58 miles) and is only four and a half hours; too long to save more than half the passengers because the ship Titanic had already drowned. The only land which received cues help the Titanic was a wireless station at Cape Race, Newfoundland.

At first, passengers were reluctant to leave the Titanic for a small rescue boats as the Titanic feel more secure and there are no signs of any kind is in danger or even drowning. This causes most of the rescue boat released with half empty, one boat capable of carrying 40 passengers released with only 12 passengers on it.

“Women and children first” priority for rescue boats, the second officer Lightoller, that fills a rescue boat on the left, only allows a man who needed a rower and not to other causes, although there is still a place vacant. First Officer Murdoch, who fill the boat to the right, allows a man up when a woman no one wants to ride again. When the ship sank, the passengers began to worry and partially removed by rescue boat full of passengers. At 02:05 local time, the entire front of the bow of the ship sank beneath the water, and except for two boats, all the other rescue boats had been lowered.  Around 02:10 local time, the back of the boat lift from the bottom surface of the water show ship, rudder, and ship propellers, and at exactly 02:17 local time, the boat deck had flooded. The situation worsened during the last two rescue boats float from the deck, one inverted and one half was filled with water. Not long after, the front chimney fell, crushing some deck guards and they will float in water. On deck, the passengers ran toward the back or jump into the sea view hope to get to a rescue boat. The back of the ship slowly lifted up, and goods that are not tied to falling into the sea. When the rear of the ship is raised, the system eletrik dead and lights began going out. Not long after, on the part of the hull is not strong to resist the load caused the Titanic split in half between the last two chimneys, and the front of the sink completely. The back of the ship directly tehempas back on the water surface and lifted upright. After a few moments, at 02:20 local time, everything is sinking into the sea.

From some 2223 passengers, only 706 survivors; 1517 passengers were killed. Most of the passengers died due to hypothermia victims get in water 28 ° F (2 ° C). Only two of the 18 rescue boats that go back to rescue the victims from the water after the ship sank. Rescue boat number four back and save the five people, two of them later died. Almost an hour later a rescue boat number fourteen again and save the four passengers in which one passenger later died too. Another passenger managed to climb the rescue boat will float from the deck. There is a debate in another rescue boat samaada about to return, but most of the survivors feared that their rescue boat will sink due to the victim who tried to ride their boats or withdrawn by the Titanic sinking, despite the fact that there is only a little tug.

Both parts of the ship sank in a different way. The front stuck approximately 609 m (2,000 feet) below the seabed surface, and landed with a bit slowly. While the back of the rapidly sinking to the bottom of the ocean; spilled from the hull there is air trapped inside the ship. The back of the ship hit the base with a high speed, sinking deep into the mud.

Saved

Nearly two hours after the Titanic sank, RMS Carpathia arrived on the scene and took the first rescue boat. Within a few hours later, they are still alive saved. On the deck of Carpathia, a short solemn prayer for the people who saved and to commemorate those killed were held, and at 08:50 AM, Carpathia headed to New York, and came on April 18.

When people are given compensation, the White Star Line ship MacKay-Bennett hired to evacuate the bodies. A total of 338 bodies discovered at last. Most of the bodies were evacuated to Halifax, Nova Scotia, while the unidentified corpse was interred in Fairview Cemetery.

The after-impact of the incident

When news of the disaster spread, many people are shocked that the Titanic had sunk with the death toll is so high even though equipped with advanced technology. Filled newspapers and news about the havoc the picture and everything endlessly to get the latest news. Many charity box was made to help the victims and their families, many are losing people who are the backbone of the family, or in the case of third-class passengers, all goods which they have sunk.

Sinking of the ship gave a profound impact on the population of Southampton. According to the Hampshire Chronicle on 20 April 1912, nearly 1,000 local families directly affected. Almost every street in the Chapel area of the city lost more than one population and nearly 500 homes lost family.

Before the victims who survived came to New York, the examination has been made to find out what happened to the Titanic, and what can be done to avoid a repeat of the incident. United States Senate to start the examination of the Titanic disaster on April 19, the day after the Carpathia arrived in New York with the survivors. Inquiry chairman, Senator William Alden Smith, wanted to collect the testimony of passengers and crew while still fresh in their memory. Smith also require a written call of British nationals to the court at the time they were still in the United States. U.S. examination lasted until May 25, Lord Mersey was appointed to chair the Council for Trade in UK investigation of the disaster. English examination took place between May 2 and 3 July. Each inspection takes a second opinion from the Titanic passengers and crew, and crew Californian and other experts.

The investigators found that most of the safety regulations were outdated and with various new safety measures imposed. Both inspection of the disaster found that the captain and the ship Californian failed to provide reasonable assistance to the Titanic. The examination found that Californian closer to the Titanic is 31 km (19.5 miles), an unfortunate by Captain Lord and that Lord should have awakened the wireless operator after firing flares were reported to him. Due to the Californian wireless operator was not on duty, 29 countries ratified the Deed of Radio 1912, which equates to radio communications, especially in a state of danger.

Disaster have promoted the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea in London, England, on November 12, 1913. On January 20, 1915, agreement signed by the organization and resulted in the establishment and financing of the International Ice Patrol, the United States Coast agency staff who to this day to monitor and report the location of the floating icebergs of the Atlantic that could become a threat to transatlantic sea lane. Also approved the new regulations that all passenger ships need to have sufficient rescue boats for all passengers on board, and the appropriate safety training conducted, and all radio communications are controlled 24 hours a day with a second control center, so as not to miss an emergency call. In addition, it was agreed that a red flare fired from the ship should be regarded as a sign of emergency and danger.

Monito del Monte

The Monito del Monte is extraordinary magic, small marsupials are believed to have been extinct for 11 million years until one was found in a bamboo grove in the southern Chilean Andes. The creature is more closely related to Australian marsupials than other South American, and possibly related to the marsupials of Australia’s earliest known live 55 million years ago.
